Question 17 0807

Who is your current favourite designer?

My favourite these days is Hanne Falkenberg of Denmark. I appreciate her use of colour and texture. Some of her work looks so tailored. Take a peak at her Tweedie (below).

Special notice: This month I will be picking one entry, at random, to receive 2 hanks of Shelridge Farm Soft Touch Heather fingering yarn in Highland Mist (enough to make a large pair of socks). The prize winner will be chosen on Sunday, September 16th, 2007. If you would like to be included in the draw please send me your email address to fingersfancy at inbox dot com once you have posted your submission to the comments section of this post.
ETA: If you wish to email me, please put "[FF]" in the subject line (without the quotes). Otherwise your email will be lost.

The designer whose creations I have most enjoyed knitting recently would have to be Jane Sowerby. I was given her book Victorian Lace Today as a swap gift and have knit several of the designs and just love looking through the book at all the beautiful delicate lace shawls and stoles.

My favorite designer is Hannah Kaminsky from bittersweetblog.wordpress.com. She's so creative, she thinks of the cutest things to knit and crochet. She makes patterns for everything from a Hostess cupcake hat to a kiwi bird that can sit on your shoulder. She proves that you can knit pretty much anything if you have your heart set on it.

I just can't get enough of the sock patterns she's shared on knitty.com.

My favorite designer du jour is Elsebeth Lavold - classic designs, lovely interpretations of timeless motifs.

My favourite designer is currently Glampyre/Stefanie Japel. I like her symbiosis between historically inspired or girly and wearable. I have only knitted two of her designs but the patterns were very well written, which also endeared the designer to me :-)

I am just getting into more intricate designs and have been blown away by Cookie A and Elizabeth Zimmerman. I mention both altho I haven't actually tried Cookie A's monkey socks, yet. They are on my to-do list for this winter.

I've just discovered EZ and have both the Baby Surprise Jacket and the Mobius Jacket OTN at this point.

Currently it's Cookie A. for her sock designs. As an obsessive sock knitter, I am enamored especially of her Monkey pattern. I think I could be happy just making Monkey socks out of all my gorgeous sock yarn stash!!

Kaffe Fasset- not so much to knit (since I don't do intarsia much), but just to look at. I can pore over his pattern books endlessly, marveling at his use of color.

My current favorite designer is Teva Durham (Loop-d-Loop). She has great shaping and attention to detail that make unique projects. I knitted one of her sweaters for DD (half on the bias and half sideways--can't remember the name)and she gets comments everywhere she goes.

I am also a new fan of Elizabeth Zimmerman. I'm learning a lot from her. I also like the simple patterns that Alexandra Virgiel does (Artisokka.com) and am making Rose, which is Soleil (Knitty.com) with sleeves.

Elizabeth Zimmerman and her daughter Meg Swanson are my favs. EZ taught me to think about my knitting and not just follow patterns. It's scary but very liberating.

For me Elizabeth Zimmerman tops the list. Her Baby Surprise Jacket is a classic. After her Eunny Jang and Cookie A are tied. Eunny's work simply blows my mind and Cookie A's socks never cease to amaze me!

My top of the list designer is Norah Gaughan. I really want to buy her Knitting Nature book - if I can stop buying sock yarn long enough to save for it.

For socks I love the ideas I can glean for Charlene Schurch. For Other knitting no one can beat Elizabeth Zimmerman. She gies all of us the freedom to make whatever we are making all our own, even when we use her patterns.

I've been thinking about this recently. My DH reached his tolerance limit on my needlework magazines, so I've been sorting through and passing on the least interesting issues. In this process, I noticed that most every time I saw a design and thought, ohhh, I love that one is was by the same designer. Norah Gaughan's creatitivity is inspiring!

Wow, it's a tough call. I love EZ, Cookie A., Nancy Bush, and Sivia Harding. But I think the one that tops my list is Glampyre/Stefanie Japel. I love pretty much everything she has designed, and my favorite sweater I've ever made is one of her designs (Easy V-Neck Raglan).

I do not know if she is favorite designer but the Catalina Shawl by Gabriella is the only pattern I purchased the day I saw it. I had to have it and I am now looking at her other patterns as well.

Veronik Avery all the way. Her designs look so classic, but with subtle touches to make them so much more interesting than everything else out there. She is truly an inspired designer.
